Who is actually doing this.
A community project is only ever the people who turn up for it. Here are the ones who turn up for this one, honestly, including how few of us there are.
Deri Reed
Founder, and the chef
Deri founded The Warren in 2016, driven by a belief that good food should support the people who grow it, respect the land it comes from and bring people together.
That philosophy helped The Warren earn a place in the Good Food Guide’s Top 100 Local Restaurants for six years running, while Deri was named Community Food Champion at the BBC Food & Farming Awards in 2024.
At the heart of it all is a passion for protecting our food and farming industry by cooking delicious, local, seasonal food and bringing people together around the table.
John
Financial controller
John moved to Carmarthen in early spring 2025 and regularly enjoyed eating at The Warren, and missed it when it closed. When the call came for volunteers to help reopen the restaurant he was ready to put on the yellow gloves and get stuck in, and loves being part of the volunteer crew.
Prior to his move to Wales, John spent 30 years as a Chartered Tax Advisor for consulting firms including Deloitte and KPMG. He was also a care worker and administrator for North Bristol NHS Trust.
John brings his professional skills to help support the team behind The Warren, and is enjoying working with Deri and Berian to create something special in Carmarthen.
Berian
The plan, and everything with a screen on it
Berian works on strategy and digital for a living and does none of that here for money. The website, the booking system, the newsletter, the numbers behind the pilot and the arguing about what they mean.
The division of labour is not complicated. Deri decides, Berian works out what the options actually cost first.
Emrys
Social media and community, volunteer
Emrys joined in August 2026 as a volunteer, helping with social media and with answering the people who get in touch.
The Warren has always been a room full of people who turned up. He is the newest of them and not the last.
Andrew
Volunteer day support, volunteer
And that is genuinely all of us.
Three people, one of them a volunteer, plus everybody who has given a Thursday. If the pilot works there will be more of us, paid properly and with a real say in it. That is the thing being tested, and it is not settled yet.
